Effective Parenting

WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE PARENTING

As parents, we all want our children to grow up to become good people and responsible citizens. Parents thus carry the formidable responsibility of bringing up their children in the best possible way. But what is good parenting? Good parenting happens when parents create a stable, nurturing home environment, are positive role models and play an active part in the child’s life.

A parenting workshop for the parents of class 1 was conducted by the School. Ms. Ritu Kaushik, the school counsellor was the speaker of the morning.

Ms. Kaushik began by sharing the common present day scenario in most households. She shared common errors and flaws that occur during early years of parenting. To counter these, she gave practical suggestions and tips. She said responsible parents instil good values, set limits, and influence a child’s behaviour in a positive manner.

Finally the take-away from the workshop was:

“The best thing you can give your children is your time. Be there for them. No matter how busy you and your children are, take time out to be together to communicate.

The School Principal Mr A K Dubey thanked the speaker for her insightful information and the parents for sparing their time and assisting the school in shaping the custodians of tomorrow

    SESSION ON EFFECTIVE PARENTING

Being a parent is no less than bliss; however, there can never be a more daunting task than to find a perfect way to parenting. Children learn more from what we are than what we teach. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us as adults to unlearn a few things and learn/acquire many new skills to model the personality we would like our child to be. Quoting Hodding Carter – “Two great things you can give your children: one is roots, the other is wings.”
Parents and Teachers of class I attended a workshop on Positive Parenting in the school as part of the Parents’ Enrichment Program. The programme was facilitated by the school counsellor Ms Ritu Kaushik who spoke about the importance of setting a routine for children and striking the right balance between disciplining a child and giving into his or her emotional needs and also how a more participative, involved style of parenting will build trusting relationship between the parent, child and the school and will make more secure and mature adults in future. Taking into cognisance the everyday observations made by the teachers and the coordinator Ms Manishi Vats, she emphasized upon inculcating discipline of values and ethics right from the prelim years. She urged upon the parents to indulge in time tested activities like story telling as it helps children take decisions for themselves.
The parents shared an encouraging, positive feedback about the workshop and appreciated the school’s effort in involving the parents in overall development of their child.
